I’m the founder of Signal Sounds. My background is in performance, arranging and composition. I’ve been studying music and performing for over 25 years. I’ve been creating music and sounds in various bands and recording projects. Firstly, I learned how to play “Mary had a Little Lamb” with heavy vibrato on the clarinet but soon after hearing Robert Johnson, Nirvana, The Beatles, Ornette Coleman, Patti Smith and Bad Brains on one cassette tape, I decided to “Shut Up 'n Play My Guitar”. Growing up in New York, I was exposed to a vast and boundless amount of music. From orchestral music, blues, Motown, jazz, funk to an expansive electronic/pop record collection, my ears heard a diverse blend from a young age.
I attended the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music and finished a B.F.A in Jazz performance in the Spring of 2007. Vowing to never go back to music school, I completed a M.F.A at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in 2014.
In 2020, the year Netflix’s “Love is Blind” became a mega hit, amongst other stuff that happened, I vowed yet again to never go back to music school. I completed an expedited Music Education Degree at Brooklyn College, I currently reside in Portland, Oregon. For almost a year, mostly keeping to myself, my neighbors believed I was an undercover cop ala’ Al Pacino in “Serpico” and my guitars were merely a prop. It’s been a new utopia for this microorganism in this microcosm. You never have to parallel park, there is an abundance of nature (mostly inflatable frogs) and rivers you can actually swim in…….even naked. Though I do miss smelling the Gowanus Canal in the late 80’s and the White Castle on Metropolitan Ave (Rest in Peace Sweet Prince!) but enough of the nostalgia.
